H.M.S. Acteon (Ship) logbook, 1860-1864.

The logbook of the ship H.M.S. Acteon details a voyage of a merchant vessel around Japan, shortly after it had been opened to foreign trade by Perry. The author, together with some of his fellow officers, visited the interior, traded with natives, and recorded their observations of the manners and customs of the people. Illustrated with pencil drawings. The author is William Howard Brown. Captain was Ward.
